Fixed wireless broadband ISP Solway Communications, which has built its network across parts of Cumbria (England) and recently began deploying some limited Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) infrastructure again, has today become the latest in a long line of internet providers to be acquired by Voneus for an undisclosed sum.

Wireless broadband ISP BorderLink, which covers rural areas across Northumberland, Cumbria and the Scottish Borders, has today published the first solid details of the rollout plan for their new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in the same area – with services being sold via their GoFibre sub-brand.

UK ISP YouFibre has announced that the first customers can now connect to their new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in the two towns of Barrow-in-Furness (Cumbria) and Houghton-le-Spring (Tyne and Wear), which has been built by network partner Netomnia.

The CEO of alternative full fibre broadband ISP B4RN, Michael Lee, has revealed that the UK Government (DCMS / Building Digital UK) are proposing “Voucher Priority Areas” as a semi-solution to the disruption caused by their new £5bn Project Gigabit programme in rural parts of Cumbria and Northumberland.

Last month we reported that the UK Government’s £5bn Project Gigabit programme was threatening to disrupt B4RN’s rollout of a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in rural parts of Cumbria and Northumberland. The good news is that Tim Farron, Lib Dem MP, has secured a parliamentary debate on the issue.

UK ISP WeFibre (Telcom Group), which recently raised £63m of funding from Gresham House, has today announced its plan to “aggressively” rollout a new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to rural areas across Northumberland, Cumbria, North West England, as well as Central and North Wales.

Belfast-based ISP Fibrus, which has spent the past couple of years deploying a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across Northern Ireland, has today announced that their build is being extended to include 300,000 premises in the North of England (i.e. Cumbria, Northumberland and North Yorkshire).

A new report suggests that UK ISP WeFibre (Telcom) may have dropped the rural Ceredigion (Wales) village of Llanon from their gigabit voucher supported Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband rollout plan, which occurred after Openreach (BT) announced that they’d cover the community. But the situation may not be so clear-cut.

The B4RN (Broadband for the Rural North) project, which is deploying a 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across rural premises in several English counties, has revealed that they’ve now covered around 17,000 premises (8,600 connected customers) and are trialling a new £5 Connect Plus tariff.

UK ISP BorderLink, which covers parts of Southern Scotland and Northern England with their ultrafast wireless broadband (100Mbps+) network, has secured a major £10.5m funding boost from the Gresham House Investment Fund (BSIF) to help them deploy 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) services.

New UK ISP WeFibre, which is part of the wider Telcom Group (including sibling operator ClearFibre), has revealed to ISPreview.co.uk that they intend to deploy their new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to serve 9 rural communities in Cumbria and West Wales.

The Government’s Building Digital UK programme has begun a new consultation to help them identify what existing or planned commercial gigabit-capable broadband coverage exists in Cumbria (England), which will help to establish the areas where public investment may be needed to rollout the service.

Openreach (BT) has today announced the completion of their second and final contract phase under the state aid supported Connecting Cumbria (CC) project, which has now made “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) ISP services available to nearly 95% of premises in the county (i.e. 127,000 extra homes and businesses).

The founder and CEO of UK rural “full fibre” broadband ISP B4RN (Broadband for the Rural North), Barry Forde MBE, has this morning announced that he intends to retire by the end of this year. The provider’s Board is currently overseeing the ongoing process of appointing a successor.
