Hyperoptic Bring 1Gbps Fibre to 20 More Thurrock Social Housing Sites

Last year UK ISP Hyperoptic announced that “thousands” of homes across 12 of Thurrock’s (Essex) social housing developments would get access to their 1Gbps fibre optic (FTTP/B) broadband network. Today we learn that a further 20 such sites will benefit, thanks to an extension of their agreement with the Council.

An unusual case of overbuild has cropped up in Essex (England) after Openreach deployed a new superfast Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) network into an area that had already gained “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) speeds with the help of public investment and ultrafast FTTP. Cambridge, Leeds and Southend-on-Sea have today been named as the next 3 UK cities and towns to be covered via Cityfibre and Vodafone’s joint deployment of a new Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network by the end of 2021. The rollout is being supported by an investment of £171m.

Maldon District Council May Pull Out of Essex UK Broadband Project

Trouble seems to be brewing in Maldon after councillors on the District Council’s Finance Committee were said to have voted unanimously to ask the full council to scrap its deal for helping to fund the roll-out of “superfast broadband” with Essex County Council, which would have contributed £45,000 to the effort.

The Essex County Council (ECC) has awarded a second £3.1 million contract in their Phase 4a Superfast Essex programme to Gigaclear, which will see the ISP extend their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband network to cover an extra 2,100 rural homes and businesses in the Epping Forest District.

The Essex County Council (ECC) has awarded Openreach (BT) with a £3.4m contract to rollout “superfast broadband” (FTTC/P) ISP networks to cover an additional 3,100 premises in the UK county, which includes 1,500 in the borough of Basildon and 1,600 in the district of Braintree.

The Essex County Council (ECC) in England has unveiled details of their final Phase 4 contract under the Superfast Essex project, which could be supported by up to £29 million of public investment and aims to reach “near” to 100% coverage of “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) by 2021.

UPD Wonky Pavements and Delays Cause Problems for Virgin Media in Carlisle

Contractors working for Virgin Media in Carlisle (Cumbria) have faced criticism over the quality of their work after 400 defects were logged in one year, with the local authority now having to inspect 90% (instead of the “usual” 10%) of their street works and instruct a lot of repairs.

The Superfast Essex project in England has announced the award of their £24m Phase 3 “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) roll-out contract to Gigaclear and BT, which should extend the network to a further 24,000 premises and push local coverage to around 97% by December 2019.
