Manchester-based ISP Vaioni Wholesale has announced a new “multi-million-pound” investment in its Ethernet Network (V.E.N), which they hope will enable them to build one of the “most powerful Software Defined Networks” in the United Kingdom. No sums were mentioned for the investment.

UK ISP MLL Telecom has won the contract to upgrade internet connectivity infrastructure for South Ayrshire Council in Scotland with a new Wide Area Network (WAN). The aim is to completely replace the authority’s legacy wireless network infrastructure with a new a fully managed service.

The collaboration between the not-for-profit Liverpool Internet Exchange (IX Liverpool) and UK ISP Baltic Broadband, which is deploying a 10Gbps fibre optic network to businesses around central Liverpool (Merseyside), has now gone live to firms in the Lime Street / Renshaw Street area. Openreach (BT) has today published the first Draft Reference Offer for their revised Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) product, which as per Ofcom’s requirements is intended to make it cheaper and easier for ISPs to deploy their own “full fibre” broadband networks via existing cable ducts and telegraph poles.

On 28th August 2018 Openreach (BT) will begin trialling a new 1Gbps variant of their existing Street Access product for UK businesses and wireless ISPs / network operators (previously limited to 100Mbps), which delivers Ethernet data connectivity to street furniture (lampposts, cabinets etc.).

SSE Enterprise Telecoms has this morning announced that their UK fibre optic network will be extended to another 180,000 UK business post codes by unbundling 177 extra BT Exchanges. Apparently the operator’s 13,700km “dark-fibre like” network will also be capable of delivering up to 100Gbps to each exchange.

Comms provider SSE Enterprise Telecoms has today introduced a new technology platform with Infinera, which harnesses the XTM series for metro fibre optic networks and claims to create a “credible UK alternative to costly new cable laying projects” by offering a resilient “dark fibre-like” network to businesses.

UK ISPs Telcom Group and Pinacl Solutions have today announced that they’ve entered into an exclusive partnership, which will see the pair working together to bid on the government’s Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) contracts and to launch a new Gigabit fibre optic “hypercity” in Newport and Bristol.

The UK telecoms regulator has announced that they will NOT attempt to reintroduce a “temporary remedy” for Dark Fibre Access, which would have required BT (Openreach) to provide a restricted form of DFA in the leased line (Ethernet) markets for the period until March 2019. But DFA will be tried again.

Business internet provider Elite claims to have recently lit more than 100,000 postcodes on their new Dark Fibre fed network, starting in London, for the United Kingdom’s “lowest cost Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet,” with an additional 60,000 to come in the next 4-6 months.

A new survey of 514 British firms by Opinium, which was commissioned by broadband ISP Beaming, has found that 39% of respondents intend to invest in new digital connectivity solutions during 2018 and 17% plan to meet their growing bandwidth demands by using fibre optic leased lines (Ethernet).
