Telecoms giant Vodafone claims to have successfully completed a trial of Fixed Access Network Slicing (FANS) with Huawei in Ireland, which in theory could help to support the future UK rollout and better wholesale provision of Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband networks.

Fibre optic network developer Cityfibre has today announced that Milton Keynes will be the first of several cities to benefit from their large-scale rollout of a 1Gbps FTTH “full fibre” ultrafast broadband network with Vodafone, which will initially aim to cover 1 million UK homes.

Urban fibre optic ISP Hyperoptic has announced that they’ve been selected to deliver 1Gbps capable broadband (FTTB/H) connectivity into the Chelsea Island development in London, which will feature 89 luxury apartments built by the Hadley Property Group.

Telecoms operator Vodafone has told ISPreview.co.uk that they have “no firm plans to launch” ultrafast broadband products based off Openreach’s (BT) new 330Mbps capable G.fast technology. Instead they intend to focus on preparing their new 1Gbps FTTH service for launch “later this year“.

Congratulations to the CEO of urban fibre optic ISP Hyperoptic, Dana Tobak, who has been awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for her services to the digital economy. Back in 2005 she also co-founded Be Unlimited, which was one of the first unbundled ISPs to offer ADSL2+.
