Customers of alternative broadband provider Wildanet, which has built a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across rural parts of Cornwall and Devon in South West England, have reported a number of different services outages on the network following the impact of last night’s Storm Goretti event.

Macquarie-backed telecoms provider KCOM, which have deployed their own full fibre broadband (FTTP) network across 305,000 premises in parts of East Yorkshire (primarily Hull) and Lincolnshire (England), has revealed that customers in the Hull area consumed 2,500,000 GigaBytes (GB) of data traffic on Christmas Day 2025 (500,000GB more than usual) – it’s “busiest day ever for online traffic“.

Aviva-backed alternative gigabit broadband operator Truespeed, which has only just merged with County Broadband to create a single full fibre operator covering 177,000 premises (RFS) and 41,000 customers in England (here), is reportedly in talks with Freedom Fibre about the possibility of consolidating into an even larger network.

The UK telecoms regulator has responded to recent concerns that BT’s switch to broadband-based Digital Phones may have left some vulnerable customers without access to a working service. Ofcom warns that they could potentially “step in” and investigate the operator (such things sometimes lead to a significant fine), but it’s not yet clear if they will.

Hundreds of customers connected to the internet via rural full fibre ISP County Broadband (Truespeed) in Norfolk (England) have finally been reconnected after suffering several days of disruption. The situation began after rodents decided to avoid the snow storm and instead adopted a high fibre diet by chomping through both a main and backup fibre link.

A new study from Broadband Genie has analysed 145,926 internet speed tests in order to identify the top slowest and fastest ten UK streets for broadband. The slowest street was found to be Heol-Y-Fedw (Cymmer) in Wales on an average download of just 0.81Mbps (Megabits per second), while the fastest was Inglewood Avenue in Derby (England), where residents enjoy speeds of 1.21Gbps (1,210Mbps).

Internet provider Virgin Media (O2) has kindly furnished ISPreview with some general traffic stats from their fixed broadband network over the festive period, which for example reveals that Christmas Day internet traffic was up 11% on last year (broadly in line with traffic growth generally). But compared to an average Thursday in 2025, traffic was up by 22%.

Broadband provider BT (EE) has been criticised by a resident of the remote Outer Hebrides (Scotland) island of Scalpay after they found that the Battery Backup (BBU) device, which the ISP provided for their internet and Digital Voice (phone) service, failed to work in two out of three recent power cuts. A bit of a problem as the house also gets no mobile signal.

ISPreview has today published our biannual H2 – 2025 summary of fixed broadband coverage, which reveals that “full fibre” (FTTP) ISP networks have grown to reach 81.89% of UK premises (up from 78.06% in H1) and 89.6% are within reach of “gigabit” 1000Mbps+ speeds (up from 87.84%) – close to the major milestone of 90%. The UK government has posted a Project Gigabit modification for Openreach’s £61.3m (public subsidy) contract to extend the reach of their full fibre (FTTP) based gigabit broadband network across Essex and North East England. This increases the value by £610,393 to £61.92m and will now reach an additional 269 premises in remote rural areas (total target now 24,707 premises).
