Nextgenaccess in HS1 Concession Deal to Deploy Fibre for Kent

Fibre optic network builder Nextgenaccess has signed a new 20-year concession agreement with High Speed 1, which should support a track-side rail deployment of new fibre to help bring “essential ultra-fast broadband” within easy reach of Kent local authorities, ISPs, mobile operators and business communities (at no cost to taxpayer).

The Kent County Council in England has confirmed that 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband from Openreach (BT) is set to reach an additional 5,000 rural premises. Openreach (BT) has announced that they are to conduct a second Proof of Concept (PoC) trial of “Spectrum Refarming” technology, which in theory could result in a boost to broadband speeds by allowing different technologies (e.g. FTTC / VDSL2 and G.fast) to share the same spectrum frequency.
