Boss of UK Rural Broadband ISP Quickline Exits as New Top Team Formed

The current CEO of alternative rural broadband provider Quickline, Sean Royce, has today announced that he’s retiring after nearly 5 years leading the business and is to be replaced by their Chief Transformation Officer, Mark Bowden. At the same time, the provider has promoted Martin Cook to Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

The CEO of Hull-based alternative UK network operator MS3, Guy Miller, has today announced his intention to “step away” from the company at Christmas after an “incredible four years“. The provider’s full fibre (FTTP) broadband network currently covers 234,000 premises (212k RFS) in the North of England and has connected 20,000 customers.

Rural UK Broadband Altnet Quickline Sees Revenues Grow to £3.9m

Alternative network ISP Quickline, which is rolling out a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) and wireless (FWA) broadband network across rural parts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire in England (3-Year Rollout Plan), has published their accounts to the end of 2024 and revealed revenues grew to £3.9m (2023: £3m). But they had an operating loss of £33.1m (2023: £28.8m).

First 50 Students in Lincolnshire Benefit from Quickline’s New Bursary

At the start of this year Quickline, which is building a rural gigabit broadband network across parts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire (England), announced that they and the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology (LIoT) would support 500 students through a bursary scheme (i.e. money to help with study, travel and childcare costs). The first 50 students have now benefitted from this.

Network operator CityFibre has this morning announced their second recent acquisition of an alternative UK broadband provider, which will see them gobble Connexin’s growing 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in parts of East Yorkshire (Hull etc.), Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire (England). The financial details of the deal are not yet known.

UK Gov Tweak Project Gigabit Broadband Contracts for Quickline and CityFibre

The Government (DSIT) has published contract modification notices for several of Quickline and CityFibre’s state aid funded Project Gigabit broadband roll-outs across several regions – Lincolnshire and East Riding (Lot 23), South Yorkshire (Lot 20), West and parts of North Yorkshire (Lot 31) and Cambridgeshire (Lot 5). The tweaks change both the level of committed public funding and premises target.
