Lincolnshire-based UK ISP Lightspeed Broadband, which recently burst on to the scene with a plan to invest £300m into a large deployment of 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology across the East of England, has today kicked off its build work in several towns across South Lincolnshire and West Norfolk.

Alternative network provider County Broadband, which is currently deploying a 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) service across rural parts of England, has today announced that they’ve added 12 villages on the Suffolk and Norfolk borders area to their rollout plan. “Thousands of rural homes and businesses” are set to benefit.

A new UK ISP called Lightspeed Broadband has emerged with a plan to invest £300m in order to deploy their new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, starting in towns across the East of England, to cover 100,000 homes by end of 2022 – followed by an ambition to reach 1 million by 2025.

The founder and CEO of UK rural “full fibre” broadband ISP B4RN (Broadband for the Rural North), Barry Forde MBE, has this morning announced that he intends to retire by the end of this year. The provider’s Board is currently overseeing the ongoing process of appointing a successor.

The CEO of rural UK full fibre ISP B4RN (Broadband for the Rural North), Barry Forde, has become the first person to sign-up to the provider’s new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) plan. The first live speed test of this produced a download speed of 8341Mbps and uploads of 6644Mbps, with latency of just 1ms.

Aldham-based rural UK ISP County Broadband has issued a couple of updates on their rollout plan for a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in remote parts of Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, which adds a few new villages to their existing deployment and confirms the delivery time-scale.

The CEO of Rural ISP County Broadband, Lloyd Felton, has called on the UK Government to put more “resources and training opportunities into the engineering industry” in order to help tackle the shortage of skilled “full fibre” engineers, which are needed in order to keep the roll-out of gigabit-capable broadband moving.

The UK government’s new £900m Getting Building Fund (GBF), which seeks to help create new jobs, skills and infrastructure across England in order to aid the recovery from COVID-19, has announced its allocations to various regions. A few of the projects also include funding for new gigabit broadband and “full fibre” networks.

A new Opinium survey has found that the loss of electricity for longer than 24 hours would be the biggest “inconvenience” for those surveyed in the East of England (76%), which is followed by the broadband link going down (9%), fridge not working (8%), loss of central heating (5%) and the car failing to start (3%).
