Mobile operator O2 appears to have glossed over any lingering concerns about the impending £180m migration of their fixed line customers to Sky Broadband (BSkyB) by offering their Home Broadband services at 12 months half price with a £100 M&S shopping voucher.

Customers of Sky Broadband in northern England and southern Scotland (e.g. Cumbria, Lancashire, Dumfries and Galloway etc.) were left without internet access for several days between Friday and Sunday after an unspecified “daisy chain outage” hit several telephone exchanges on the ISPs network.

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has told angry customers that it’s “extremely sorry” after the ISPs planned migration from their existing Google (Gmail) based email platform to a new Yahoo! webmail alternative (Sky Yahoo! Mail) ended in disaster when user inboxes become flooded with old and deleted messages.

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has, following two complaints by rival Sky Broadband (BSkyB), told cable operator Virgin Media not to “misleadingly” claim that their service was “unlimited” and with “no caps” if they also imposed restrictions (e.g. Traffic Management) that were “more than moderate“.

O2 Wholesale, which supplies business clients with internet connectivity solutions, has told their ISP partners that it’s “business as usual” at the firm. The comment follows O2 and BE Broadband’s (Telefonica) £180m sale of its fixed line home broadband and phone business to Sky Broadband (BSkyB) earlier this month.

Mobile operator O2 UK (BE Broadband), which is owned by Spanish multinational Telefonica, has today confirmed that their struggling fixed line Home Broadband and Home Phone service is to be taken over by arch rival BSkyB (Sky Broadband) for a consideration of £180 million.

Mail) because “Google is no longer able to provide Sky with an email platform that caters for our requirements“.

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has today released their latest results to 31st December 2012 (Q4-2012), which saw the operator increase its growth by adding +132,000 new quarterly fixed line internet access subscribers to reach a total customer base of 4,235,000 (up from +102k added in Q3-2012).

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has today become the UK’s 3rd largest ISP after its latest results to 30th September 2012 (Q3) saw them add +102,000 new quarterly broadband subscribers to reach a total of 4,103,000 (jumping TalkTalk’s 4,047,000). But growth itself was sharply down from +138k in Q2 and +212k in Q1.
