BSkyB (Sky Broadband) will tomorrow switch-on its new web-based internet TV and Film (video streaming) service, NOW TV, which aims to challenge Netflix and LOVEFiLM by making the media giants huge library of content available via a “wide range of broadband-connected devices” (computers and smartphones etc.).

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has today informed ISPreview.co.uk that its hidden superfast 76Mbps capable Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro broadband (FTTC) service, which still isn’t shown on their website, is now available to “all customers – new and existing“.

BT’s risky £738 million grab of 38 Premier League football games (here) for its BTVision TV (IPTV) service has allegedly sparked rumours in the city that BSkyB (Sky Broadband) could be about to make a bid for arch rival TalkTalk, which may or may not be a good thing.

The UK communications regulator, Ofcom, has today published its latest quarterly customer complaints data (Q1-2012) for big fixed line broadband and mobile providers (i.e. those with a market share of 4%+). Sadly TalkTalk remains the ISP with most complaints but crucially they have continued to improve.

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has today reintroduced their £25 M&S voucher (£100 if you take a TV bundle) with 12 months half price unlimited broadband and free off-peak calls promotion (£5 per month), which is only available to new customers who sign-up online. But a price hike for calls and line rental could follow.

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has this week launched a new promotion that offers their unlimited broadband and free calls (evenings and weekends) bundle at half price for 6 months to new customers (i.e. £5 per month), which includes a £25 M&S voucher (Marks & Spencer).

Analyst firm Strategy Analytics predicts that Sky Broadband (BSkyB) will continue to see strong growth throughout 2012 and add an additional 425,000 broadband subscribers by the end of 2012, which would give them a total of roughly 4.3 Million and most likely place them ahead of TalkTalk and close to the second largest ISP Virgin Media.

ISP Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has today published new research into the wireless internet (Hotspot) usage in 10 of the UK’s biggest cities, which found that 22% of people in Leeds have used public WiFi in the past 24 hours. That’s twice the national average (11%) and above London’s result of 20% (Manchester and Birmingham scored 13% each).

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) claims that internet data usage across its network of 3,863,000 home broadband ISP customers fell by a fifth over the long Diamond Jubilee bank holiday weekend as end-users swapped their computers for the nearest TV or took trips away from home.

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) yesterday become the latest internet provider to block its UK customers from being able to access The Pirate Bay website, which follows an identical move by both Virgin Media and Orange UK. Several other operators, including O2, TalkTalk and BT, are expected to follow suit within the next couple of weeks.

Global satellite operator SES ASTRA has tipped BSkyB (Sky Broadband) to be one of the first in the world to deploy the next generation of Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) services (aka – 3840×2160 pixels or “4K” / 7680×4320 pixels or “8K“) into homes, possibly by 2015, which could call into question the future competitiveness of over-the-top (OTT) style broadband TV (IPTV).

Sky (Sky Broadband) has today released its latest financial results to 31st March 2012 (Q1), which confirms that it managed to add a staggering +212,000 new home broadband subscribers during the first quarter to reach a new total of 3,863,000 (well above the +166,000 added in Q4-2011). A very strong quarter indeed.

Customers of Sky Broadband (BSkyB) have discovered that the ISP is now offering a secret Sky Fibre Pro package, which delivers superfast broadband download speeds of up to 76Mbps and upload speeds of up to 19Mbps for £30 a month. Otherwise the service mirrors the recently launched and cheaper SkyBroadband Unlimited Fibre / 40Mbps package (here).

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) will tomorrow launch its new superfast Unlimited Fibre broadband package, which uses BT’s Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) technology to deliver internet download speeds of up to 40Mbps around the UK. The service costs £20 per month alongside a £50 one-off setup fee that includes the needed connection hardware and an engineer installation.

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has today confirmed the much anticipated mid-April 2012 launch of its free wireless internet (wifi) service, which will be available to the ISPs existing SkyBroadband Unlimited, Sky Fibre Unlimited (due to launch next week) and Sky Connect customers from over 10,000 Hotspots across the UK.
