Full fibre broadband ISP Gigaclear has today moved to remind everybody that the commercial rollout of their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in Devon and Somerset is on-going. The provider has just added a further 239 properties in the villages of Lympsham, Eastertown, Edingworth and Rooks Bridge.

The recent cancellation of UK ISP Gigaclear’s “full fibre” (FTTP) rollout contract under the Connecting Devon and Somerset project (here) has left many rural areas with concerns. As a result the Devon County Council has now moved to assure them that the roll-out of “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) is continuing.

As many as 350,000 UK homes and businesses across Dorset, Devon and Somerset in England could potentially gain access to a new Gigabit-capable (1Gbps) Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network after new ISP Jurassic Fibre (a play on the local “Jurassic Coast” shoreline) formally launched in Exeter yesterday.

The trouble prone Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) project, which recently took the decision to end their Phase 2 contract with “full fibre” broadband ISP Gigaclear due to significant roll-out delays (here), has confirmed that they don’t expect to sign a new supplier contract until around November 2020.

In yet another major upset the Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) project has today taken the decision to end their contract with “full fibre” broadband ISP Gigaclear, which last year suffered significant delays that set some parts of their rollout back by around 2 years. Sadly efforts to agree a revised plan were not successful.

Rural full fibre UK ISP TrueSpeed, which is busy rolling out a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across parts of South West England (e.g. Somerset), has today announced somewhat of a first by pledging to offer an Active Ethernet network that delivers a “dedicated” 10Gbps link to every individual customer.

The troubled Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) project has announced that it is looking for ISPs to help support the launch of a new funding scheme, which is due to launch later in 2019 and will help rural communities to get a faster broadband network built. Meanwhile Gigaclear has been given a deadline to get their FTTP plan sorted.

Rural broadband ISP Gigaclear has been fined £10,339.17 in Somerset UK after it admitted that some of its work, which involved deploying a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network around the small market town of Wellington, had failed to comply with the 1991 New Road and Street Works Act.

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and full fibre FTTP ISP Airband has announced that they’ve recruited additional engineers and extended their fleet to cope with increased demand as it deploys “high speed broadband” deeper into rural Shropshire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Devon and Somerset.

Alternative UK network providers seem to be cropping up like spring flowers and the latest to join that club is Jurassic Fibre, which has an ambition to invest over £250m into building a 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to cover 350,000 premises across Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

Alternative rural network ISP Wessex Internet appears to be making good use of the UK Government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (GBVS) and are using the investment to help grow their Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network into more villages around Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.

The UK Government has officially backed a bid to extend £18.7m of public funding so that it can be used to further extend “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) in Devon and Somerset up to March 2023, which follows various historic and recent delays to the project’s roll-out plan. Sadly they’ve yet to resolve the Gigaclear situation.

The imaginatively named Exeter-based business ISP Full Fibre Limited, which currently claims to operate a core network between its two data-centres in London and fibre broadband access networks in Devon and Surrey, has revealed that they have tentative plans to expand their fibre network.

Rural UK full fibre ISP TrueSpeed appears to be in the process of extending their Gigabit broadband capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to the large village of Peasedown St John in Somerset, which is currently home to a population of around 6,500 and would mark one of their biggest areas to date.

Residents of Walton-in-Gordano in rural Somerset (England) have become the latest in the county to find themselves in a rather unusual situation, where two alternative UK network (altnet) ISPs – Gigaclear and TrueSpeed – are proposing to extend their Gigabit capable “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband networks into the area.

A new survey of 92 businesses in the UK county of Somerset, which was conducted by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce (SCC), has revealed that local firms are more concerned about issues around education and skills (56%) and digital infrastructure (52%) than the imminent arrival of Brexit (42%).
