Gigaclear to Complete Unfinished Builds in Devon and Somerset

A small but important update has just been issued, which confirms that UK rural “full fibre” broadband ISP Gigaclear has reached a settlement with the Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) project. As part of that the provider will continue a commitment to complete the work in areas that were started under the former contracts.

Rural full fibre broadband ISP Gigaclear has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that they are now in the final stages of piecing together the next phase of a revised commercial rollout plan for Devon and Somerset (England). Assuming all goes to plan then this could be finalised before the end of Q1 2020.

Fixed wireless broadband ISP Voneus, which recently secured £30m to help their wireless and fibre network target 900,000 UK premises (here), has today announced that they intend to cover the “whole” of the city of Wells in Somerset. Business connectivity provider SSE Enterprise Telecoms (SSEET) has signed a carrier agreement to make use of a new fibre optic link from Nextgenaccess (i.e. the 60km fibre route nearing completion between Bradley Stoke in Bristol and Newport in South Wales), which will enable the UK operator to connect with a high capacity data centre.

A new survey of 135 Somerset-based firms, which was undertaken online by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce in partnership with local rural “full fibre” broadband ISP Truespeed, has claimed that 42% of businesses still don’t have access to “fibre broadband” and half of respondents suffered daily or weekly drop-outs in service.
