The Superfast Staffordshire project with Openreach (BT) claims to have succeeded in its original Phase 2 contract goal, which aimed to make fixed line FTTC/P superfast broadband (24Mbps+) networks available to order by 95% of premises before the end of 2017 (c.97% in terms of the raw “fibre” footprint).

A further 1,300 homes and businesses in Staffordshire (England) are due to be covered by Openreach’s (BT) “superfast fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network after the state aid fuelled Superfast Staffordshire project received a funding boost of £1.7 million.

The Staffordshire County Council has established a new £400,000 Community Fibre Partnership Support Fund (CFPSF), which aims to help remote rural communities to raise enough investment to get a “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network installed by Openreach (BT).

The rural community of Cotwalton in Staffordshire (England) has become the latest to help pay for an “ultrafast” (330Mbps) FTTP broadband upgrade through BT’s existing Community Fibre Partnerships scheme, but the twist is that it’s also the first one to be combined with public funding.

Openreach (BT) engineers appear to have scored a small PR coup by connecting the CLA, which represents 33,000 rural land owners from across England and Wales and often campaigns for better rural broadband (partly by criticising BT’s effort), to their superfast broadband capable FTTC service.
