After a chaotic start to the year BT has today published their latest report for Q2 2017 (calendar), which saw their retail broadband base reach a total of 9,286,000 subscribers (up by 19K vs 29K in Q1) and this includes 5.1 million “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) users (up 170K vs 211K in Q1).

The latest H1 2017 report from RootMetrics has revealed the 4G mobile performance and availability of O2, Three UK, Vodafone and EE across England, Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland. Overall EE takes the crown for Mobile Broadband speed and coverage, while Three UK won for reliability and calls.

Telecoms and internet provider Vodafone has today reported that they added +29K new customers to their UK home broadband service in Q2 2017 (total 245,000), which is down from the +33K added in Q1 (calendar). Meanwhile their 4G population coverage has reached 97%.

A new survey conducted by the National Farmers Union with 800 farmers across the United Kingdom has found that just 6% have access to “superfast” broadband download speeds and 85% have an “unreliable” outdoor mobile phone signal.

The total number of world fixed broadband subscribers grew by 2.36% during Q1 2017 and now stands at 875.1 Million (up from 812.7 Million one year ago). Some 71% of all net additions in Q1 came from East Asia (mostly China), but only 16.62% came from the more mature market of Europe.

The Government’s £1.7bn Broadband Delivery UK project has published its latest Q1 2017 take-up data for their roll-out of “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) services across the United Kingdom, which is a key gauge for how much public investment suppliers (e.g. BT) will have to return.

A new survey of 2,000 British adults by Mortar, which was commissioned by UK ISP TalkTalk, has revealed that slow broadband comes top in a list of household bugbears for 2017 and as a result this is causing people to lose their cool as often as 138 times a year (aka “Load Rage“).

Ofcom’s latest Q1 2017 study of UK consumer complaints about fixed line Broadband, Phone, Pay TV and Mobile services has praised Sky (Sky Broadband) for receiving the fewest gripes. Meanwhile BT, TalkTalk and Vodafone are highlighted for attracting the most complaints.

Consumer magazine Which? has today published the results of a new survey that reveals the fastest and slowest local authorities across the United Kingdom by broadband download speed (median). The Orkney Islands (6.3Mbps) are by far the slowest and Tamworth is the fastest (30.4Mbps).

A new survey of 2,006 UK employees, which was conducted by Virgin Media, has found that 71% of home-workers view “fast, reliable broadband” as “very important” and the cable operator warns that the ASA’s on-going review of how line speeds are advertised fails to consider this group.

A new report from the Wireless Broadband Alliance, which examined the levels of urban and rural connectivity across 8 major countries, has found that London is the most connected city (7% of citizens are unconnected) but 1.75bn citizens in the world’s richest countries (by GDP) remain unconnected.

Mobile operator EE has come out on top in a new RootMetrics study of YouTube’s video streaming via 4G and 3G mobile networks in London, which rated all four primary mobile operators by several criteria (e.g. video resolution, time taken to start a video, playback freezes / buffering etc.).
