The UK government’s new £900m Getting Building Fund (GBF), which seeks to help create new jobs, skills and infrastructure across England in order to aid the recovery from COVID-19, has announced its allocations to various regions. A few of the projects also include funding for new gigabit broadband and “full fibre” networks.

UK ISP B4RN (Broadband for the Rural North), which is deploying a 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network to rural premises in several counties across England, has furnished us with a progress update and revealed that they aim to reach 40,000 properties passed by 31st March 2022 and possibly c.70,000 by 2025/26.

Openreach (BT) has today announced that they will deliver “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) coverage to an additional 5,000 homes and 550 businesses in Suffolk UK (mostly rural areas) after securing the contract for Phase 3 of the state aid supported Better Broadband for Suffolk (BBS) project, which we assume will use FTTP.

Urban UK fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has announced that they’ve started construction on their £14m project to build a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network in the sea side Suffolk town of Lowestoft, which will be supplied by ISP partners Vodafone (and eventually TalkTalk).

B4RN (Broadband for the Rural North), which is currently working with volunteers to help fund and build a new gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network across rural parts of England, has confirmed that they’re now making a 10Gbps broadband package available to “everyone who wants it.” But you’ll need deep pockets.

Full fibre developer Cityfibre appears to have recently started the build phase of their new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) based broadband ISP network in the Suffolk (England) town of Ipswich, which is expected to cost the operator around £24 million to complete by the autumn of 2022.

Cityfibre has today announced that they’ve already started construction of their new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network in the Suffolk (England) town of Bury St Edmunds (not to be confused with Bury near Manchester), which was only very recently added (here) to their £4bn UK roll-out plan.

Ofcom has today implemented softer rules to support Openreach’s (BT) IP (VoIP) and FTTP UK migration trials in Salisbury and Mildenhall (here), which aim to test the processes for moving customers off older copper broadband ISP and telephone services. Discounts and a new bulk migration process are part of the changes.

The Suffolk County Council (SCC) appear set to appointed a supplier for their new £10m+ state aid fuelled Phase 3 Superfast Broadband contract, which could see 7,000 additional premises (mostly in rural areas) being reached by faster UK ISP networks; most likely via “gigabit-capable” Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology.

Openreach has unveiled some new special offers to help ISPs facilitate their analogue telephone (WLR) to digital voice (VoIP), and copper to “full fibre” (FTTP), Exchange Upgrade trials (here, here and here) in Mildenhall (Suffolk) and Salisbury (Wiltshire) respectively.

Ofcom are consulting on a new proposal that could remove a few key pieces of regulation from Openreach (BT), which is intended to support their analogue telephone (WLR) to digital voice (VoIP) and copper to “full fibre” (FTTP) Exchange Upgrade trials (here and here) in Mildenhall (Suffolk) and Salisbury (Wiltshire) respectively

Ofcom has announced that they will test a softer approach to UK telecoms regulation on Openreach’s new FTTP broadband Exchange Upgrade trial in Salisbury (Wiltshire), which is testing how the operator will in the future handle a complete migration from copper to “full fibre” lines.

The Suffolk County Council in England has issued a new report on the progress of their £64m project to help extend the coverage of “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) capable ISP networks to 98% of local premises by the end of 2020, which after some initial delays is now running nearly 6 months ahead of schedule.

Openreach (BT) has announced two new UK technology trials (i.e. an FTTP Exchange Upgrade process and Digital Voice services) for premises in Salisbury (Wiltshire) and Mildenhall (Suffolk), which forms part of their wider efforts to move toward an All-IP and national “full fibre” broadband ISP network.

The East Suffolk Council in England has agreed to explore a proposed extension of Cityfibre and UK ISP MLL Telecom’s on-going rollout of a new “full fibre” network across the town of Lowestoft, which would enable the network to bring “ultrafast broadband” speeds of 1000Mbps+ to local homes and smaller businesses.

The UK Government’s Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has released £1.725m to help improve “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) coverage in rural parts of Suffolk. The money is expected to result in a further 550 business and 600 non-business (homes etc.) premises being covered.
