Mobile operator Three UK has today announced a new contract with SSE Enterprise Telecoms, which will initially see the latter facilitating fibre optic connections to 20 of the mobile operator’s core data centres. The deal helps to enhance capacity for their existing 4G network and prepare it for 5G.

A new study conducted by Global Wireless Solutions, which combined controlled network testing with an analysis of consumer behaviour and expectations of performance, has revealed which UK cities deliver the most reliable mobile network per operator. It’s good news for O2 and bad for Vodafone.

Consumer magazine Which? has published the results from their latest 2018 consumer survey of Mobile Network Operators (MNO), which ranked Utility Warehouse top with a customer score of 84% and they were followed by giffgaff (81%). Sadly Vodafone retains the bottom spot.

Reports indicate that consumer focused mobile operator Three UK (CK Hutchison) are going through an upgrade of their national network, which aside from laying the ground work for a future 5G service will also pave the way for a move into business connectivity (beyond existing small business tariffs).

Ofcom has today published their latest Q4 2017 UK consumer complaints study, which notes that TalkTalk attracted the most gripes for both fixed line home broadband and landline phone services. Meanwhile BT were the naughtiest child for both Mobile and Pay TV.

As expected the UK telecoms regulator has today finalised precisely how much extra mobile spectrum has been won in the recent auction of the 4G friendly 2.3GHz and future 5G targeted 3.4GHz radio spectrum bands, which saw EE (BT), O2, Three UK and Vodafone spend a total of £1.37bn.

RootMetrics has today published another batch of results from their latest study, which reveals the 4G (LTE) network coverage of the United Kingdom’s four primary mobile operators across 16 of the biggest UK cities. EE delivered the best coverage but often only by the narrowest margin.

A new RootMetrics study has ranked eight of the United Kingdom’s most popular rail transit lines by the quality of their on-board Mobile (3G and 4G) network connectivity. Overall those taking a train via the ‘London Paddington to Reading‘ route are likely to have the best experience.

The UK telecoms regulator has today revealed the preliminary winners from their auction of the new 4G Mobile friendly 2.3GHz and future 5G destined 3.4GHz radio spectrum bands. All of the major mobile operators have won a slice and the total value of the principal stage is £1,355,744,000.

A new crowd-sourced study of 3G and 4G based Mobile Broadband performance from Tutela has revealed how Three UK, O2, Vodafone and EE (BT) perform across England, Wales and Scotland, as well as generally for the whole of the United Kingdom. As usual EE retains the overall top spot.

Mobile operator Three UK has today published their full year results for 2017, which among other things revealed that monthly Mobile Broadband (3G / 4G) data usage per customer grew by 7% during 2017 to 6.8GB (GigaBytes) and indoor population coverage is now 98.5% (up from 95% last year).

The telecoms regulator has today opened a new investigation to examine whether some of the new 4G mobile plans and add-ons being offered by Three UK and Vodafone are compliant with the EU’s new Net Neutrality rules, which are designed to protect the open internet from abuse.

The national telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today approved six telecoms operators’ to take part in the forthcoming auction of 4G and 5G friendly radio spectrum, which will see 40MHz of frequency in the 2.3GHz band and 150MHz in the 3.4GHz band being distributed.

RootMetrics has today released their H2 2017 study of 4G mobile network performance across 16 of the United Kingdom’s most populated metropolitan markets (cities), which predictably scored EE as the best overall network operator and they’re followed in second place by Three UK.

Mobile operators Three UK, EE, O2 and Vodafone have all confirmed that they’ll introduce mid-contract price rises for subscribers, which as usual will be conducted in line with inflation as measured via the Retail Price Index (RPI). The RPI figure for January 2018 was 4%.
