Existing Three UK Customers Say Goodbye to Unlimited Tethering

Mobile operator Three UK has been slowly phasing out unlimited Mobile Broadband tethering support from their “all-you-can-eat” data tariffs since they introduced new plans earlier this year (here) and now existing subscribers of the legacy ‘One Plan’ are being pushed onto new contracts too, which cap tethering usage.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today released its first new study into the national performance of Mobile Broadband services since May 2011. The results show that the average mobile download speed has risen to 15.1Mbps on 4G and 6.1Mbps on 3G (up from a general 1.5 – 2.1Mbps in 2011). The fastest operators were EE and O2.

A new study of Mobile Broadband (3G and 4G) performance across the United Kingdom, which was conducted by consumer magazine Which? and OpenSignal, has found that Vodafone had the fastest 4G (LTE) based Internet download speeds over the past three months (13.21Mbps) and that’s somewhat better than the average fixed line ADSL home broadband connection that clocks in at 7.4Mbps.

A new study from Global Wireless Solutions has discovered what most UK rail commuters already knew, that Mobile Broadband connectivity on the train is more often than not a pile of poop. Mobile operator Three UK has signed an agreement with Virgin Media that will enable their customers to access the cable operators WiFi wireless Internet network at 137 London Underground stations for free, just as Vodafone, EE and O2 already can. Mobile operator Three UK has come top in a new Road Trip 2014 study of Mobile Broadband performance, which among other things found that the provider delivered both the fastest average 3G (4.48Mbps DOWN and 1.4Mbps UP) and 4G (6.19Mbps DOWN and 1.54Mbps UP) based mobile Internet speeds. Meanwhile EE was a close second.

RootMetrics has published its latest biannual study of Mobile Broadband (3G and 4G) performance across the city of London (England), which conducted 88,670 tests during March 2014 to reveal that EE still deliver the fastest download (17.8Mbps) and upload (9.3Mbps) speeds. But rivals O2, Three UK and Vodafone are improving.
