Mobile operator’s Three UK and EE have come top in the latest annual study of roaming Mobile Broadband performance. Overall Three UK delivered the highest peak internet download speed of 8.66Mbps (Megabits per second), while EE delivered the best average speed of 3.43Mbps. But once again it’s bad news for Vodafone.

A new study from RootMetrics has named EE as the fastest mobile broadband operator in Manchester (England) after it blitzed past rivals, including distant runner-up Three UK, to record an average download speed of 15.2Mbps (Megabits per second) and uploads of 9.4Mbps.

Mobile operator Three UK (Hutchison 3G UK), which still misleadingly insists upon calling its existing 3G based Mobile Broadband network “ultrafast” (fixed line ISPs tend to associate this with speeds of at least 100Mbps), has confirmed that it’s future 4G (LTE) product will be last to market when it arrives in Q4-2013.

Mobile operator Three UK (Hutchison 3GUK Ltd.) has announced that their forthcoming 4G (LTE) based “ultrafast” Mobile Broadband network will, unlike its rivals, offer the service across all existing and new price plans “without customers needing to pay a premium fee to upgrade“.

The annual uSwitch.com Mobile Awards 2012, which took place this week in London’s Covent Garden (Circus) area, have named Three UK as the Best Mobile Network and the Fastest Network for 3G based Mobile Broadband speeds. The operator was also crowned as the best network for roaming.

Mobile group Everything Everywhere (Orange UK and T-Mobile) has agreed to sell some of its prized 1800MHz radio spectrum to rival Three UK, which could theoretically allow the operator to launch its own superfast “4G” (Long Term Evolution) based Mobile Broadband services before the end of 2012.

Mobile operator Three UK appears to have shunned new advertising rules by unveiling its new Huawei E3231 USB Dongle (Modem), which its press release questionably claims can offer “super-fast” Mobile Broadband download speeds of up to 21.1Mbps using its latest HSPA+ (3G) technology.

Ofcom has delayed its proposal to allow T-Mobile and Orange UK (Everything Everywhere) to launch the country’s first 4G superfast Mobile Broadband service over their existing 1800MHz (3G) spectrum band. Separately Three UK, in an effort to ensure that they get a fair slice of the much more valuable 800MHz spectrum (covers a wider area for less money), are now mulling legal action.

Mobile operator Three UK has announced that it is bringing an “end to out-of-bundle data charges for all new Smartphone contract customers“. Instead new customers will be given a choice between one of the operators all-you-can-eat (aka – “Ultimate Internet“) Mobile Broadband data offerings (from £18 a month) or a 250MB allowance with a “guarantee” of no out of bundle data charges.

Mobile operator Three UK (3UK) has engaged in a spot of potentially very misleading marketing today by announcing the rollout of a “4G” HSPA+ ( Evolved HSPA ) technology upgrade that will increase the services maximum Mobile Broadband download speeds from up to 21Mbps (current) to 42Mbps. Except that’s not 4G, not even close.
