Mobile network operator O2 (Virgin Media) has today warned that they’re still seeing “significant inbound roaming traffic” on their legacy 2G and 3G networks in the UK. This comes ahead of their rapidly approaching plan to withdraw the service from 1st October 2025.

Some customers of broadband ISP Virgin Media, specifically those with one of their legacy addresses that use the ntlworld.com domain, are having trouble sending and receiving email today. The issue appears to be rooted in the fact that the domain has stopped resolving. But the provider is working on a fix.

Customers of broadband ISP Virgin Media (O2), specifically those still using some of the provider’s oldest routers (i.e. Hub 2 AC, Hub 2 and Hub 1), have recently become the latest group to receive a letter inviting them to upgrade to the HUB 4.0 (ARRIS TG3492LG-VMB) “at not extra” cost. This is because the old hardware no longer receives security updates.

Mobile networks operators including EE (BT), O2 (Virgin Media), Vodafone and Three UK have warned that Ofcom’s proposals to change the cost of Annual Licence Fees (ALF) in the 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2100MHz radio spectrum bands – used to support 2G, 3G and 4G mobile (mobile broadband) services – still do not reflect reality.

The case, brought by consumer rights champion Justin Gutmann and law firm Charles Lyndon, accuses the operators of overcharging for mobile handsets beyond the end of their contractual term.

Consumer magazine Which? has published the results from their latest broadband ISP satisfaction survey, which questioned 4,347 UK adults (Dec 2024 to Jan 2025) about their internet providers. Overall three ISPs were labelled ‘Recommended Providers‘ – Zen Internet, Plusnet and Utility Warehouse, while NOW TV (NOW Broadband) and Virgin Media were ranked at the bottom.
