A new survey from broadband ISP Virgin Media (O2) has claimed that nearly half of Brits (45%) “prioritise getting their Wi-Fi set up” (they mean the internet connection) over anything else when moving into a newly purchased house. But 50% of respondents admit they aren’t sure where to place their router to ensure the best WiFi coverage.

Alternative network operator and ISP Trooli (Call Flow) has revealed that they’re also planning to shut their “up to” 100Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC / VDSL2) based broadband network in Kent, which currently still covers hundreds of premises across the villages of Stansted and parts of Fairseat.

Online shopping giant Amazon has confirmed that they will attempt to launch their first batch of 27 ultrafast broadband satellites into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) for Project Kuiper on Wednesday next week (9th April 2025) – mission “KA-01“. But it will take a further 79 launches before the new global mega constellation is fully completed.

Eutelsat has announced that their OneWeb network, which is a global constellation of broadband satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) that is still partly supported by the UK government (11% stake), is “now live and operational” for commercial and business aviation customers (airlines etc.) and they’re “ramping up” related deployments.

Fife-based ISP Transmitair, which specialises in rolling out ultrafast Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) broadband networks to rural parts of Scotland, has confirmed that homes and businesses across their coverage patch in Strathspey (Highlands of Scotland) have been left disconnected for around 5 days due to a legal dispute over a mast.

Network operator and ISP Trooli (Call Flow) has confirmed to ISPreview that a small number of their customers are at risk of disconnection, which will occur when they shut one of their old hybrid wireless and fibre optic broadband networks in rural Hampshire (England). This was originally deployed around ten years ago with public funding (Building Digital UK).

Tech charity Jangala has published a new report that reveals the findings from one of its recent pilot projects with mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media), which provided free WiFi internet access to 429 people in temporary accommodation around Coventry in England. The pilot also worked with local charities, NHS services, and housing associations.

The Scottish Futures Trust has announced that thousands of tourists and travellers in the remote archipelago of Orkney (Northern Scotland) are set to benefit from “complimentary ultra-fast internet access“, which comes after three local ferries were upgraded to harness Starlink’s global LEO satellite broadband network – supporting onboard WiFi.

The UK Government’s Department for Education (DfE) has today committed to invest £45 million into improving internet connectivity and further plans to make digital standards a requirement for all schools across the country, which includes fibre broadband upgrades for 833 schools. The goal is to help close the remaining digital divide.

The Buckinghamshire Council in England has worked with global IT consultancy firm CGI to bring “ultra-fast rural broadband connectivity” to selected sites across the county by harnessing Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology from Starlink (SpaceX), along with a free-to-use public wireless (WiFi) service.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today proposed to make part of the 1900MHz radio spectrum band (1900-1920MHz), which was previously awarded for mobile operators but has since gone unused, available for use by both the UK’s rail network (5G mobile / broadband services) and to extend coverage for the 4G Emergency Services Network (ESN).
