Boundless Networks Deploy 200Mbps Wireless Broadband to North Yorkshire

Monday, Apr 3rd, 2017 (4:37 pm) - Score 1,658

UK ISP Boundless Networks has announced that their new Microwave (Radio) based “ultrafast” wireless broadband network is being deployed to cover more areas of Craven in North Yorkshire (England), including Cononley, Silsden and parts of Skipton.

Readers might recall that Boundless first trialled their new “ultrafast” technology earlier this year, which was used to connect a number of residents and businesses in the nearby villages of Bradley and Cononley. You can find some technical details about the new network in our original article (here).

The new service claims that it can offer access to the internet at “ultrafast speeds in excess of 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) and up to 200Mbps,” with the trial showing similar performance. Apparently their ultrafast packages for residential homes start from £49 per month, although the website currently only shows a top download speed of 30Mbps (4Mbps upload) for £44.99 inc. VAT on a 30 day contract (plus £150.00 one-off for a professional installation).

David Hood, Boundless Networks Chairman and Craven Local, said:

“We are really proud and pleased to be the first provider to offer ultrafast internet services into Craven. We are investing in providing services that can only be dreamt of by many across the UK. To be able to offer our customers the chance to access ultrafast broadband today when many of these homes only just have access to superfast demonstrates a commitment by Boundless to be the leading provider of wireless ultrafast broadband.

As a resident of Craven I am proud to be able to deliver these services into these villages and communities.”

Boundless now intends to roll-out their new ultrafast network across North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Lancashire over the next three years, which is despite facing competition from existing FTTC and other broadband networks in some areas. However many of the rival networks tend to offer much slower connection speeds.

The company claims to have one of the “largest wireless coverage footprints” of any such provider in the country, with a reach of over 3,500 square miles and approximately 4,000 wireless links in service. On top of that they also operate a private national fibre optic network from their data centre in Manchester.
