eXwavia to Deploy 100Mbps Wireless Broadband Across Powys in Wales

Welshpool-based ISP eXwavia has announced plans to expand the reach of its existing superfast wireless broadband network to cover over 27,000 households and 3,000 businesses in Powys (Wales, United Kingdom) by the end of January 2013.

The provider typically offers service speeds of between 4Mbps and 100Mbps (Megabits per second), although it’s important to note that their home packages only go up to 16Mbps (i.e. well below the government’s minimum speed target of 24Mbps+ for 90% of the UK by 2015). Similarly prices aren’t cheap and start from £20 per month for a symmetric 4Mbps connection, although this does include “unlimited” downloads (Fair Usage Policy).

Annette Burgess, Managing Director of eXwavia, added:

The installation cost for eXwavia’s service can be extremely expensive, although homes and businesses can often mitigate this by seeking a grant from the Welsh Government’s (WG) £2m strong Broadband Support Scheme. Grants worth up to £1,000 are given to residents and businesses (per property) whom live in parts of Wales where either no broadband or only sub-2Mbps internet connection speeds are available.
