Openreach Tweaks Leadership Team to Deliver on Strategic Goals

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today announced a couple of big changes to their top leadership team, which is apparently intended to help them “continue delivering against [our] strategic goals” (e.g. the £15bn rollout of full fibre broadband to 25 million UK premises by December 2026).

The biggest change reflects the retirement of the operator’s MD of Strategic Infrastructure and Development, Kim Mears OBE, who has been with Openreach since 2006 and is a familiar name around these parts. But Kim will remain on as both an Executive adviser and Chair of the Welsh Board.

NOTE: Kim received an OBE in 2020 for services to the UK communications industry, partly as a reflection of her efforts to help deploy the previous generation of “superfast broadband” (FTTC etc.) services.

On the flip side, Katie Milligan, who currently leads the operator’s commercial relationships with UK ISPs and is accountable for the company’s revenue, is to extend her remit by assuming a new role of Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Katie will also continue to steer the business’ delivery in Northern Ireland and will now expand her role to include Infrastructure Development – working closely with house-builders and governments etc.

Clive Selley, Openreach CEO, said:

“I want to congratulate Katie on her expanded role. She’s done an incredible job in bringing our customers onboard with full fibre and delivering the highest standards of connectivity in Northern Ireland. I’m also extremely grateful for Kim’s support and counsel throughout my time in Openreach.

She has been instrumental in delivering massive engineering and infrastructure projects which continue to have a huge impact on the millions of customers we serve. I’m also pleased that she’ll continue to act as an Executive adviser for Openreach, supporting our push to deliver further broadband upgrades across the country, particularly in rural areas. I wish Kim a very long and happy retirement.”

End.

Even by the high bar you have set on here for enervated and inconsequential whining, having a dig because a retirement-aged-lady is retiring is quite impressive.

Good to see another woman promoted in a senior UK telco role though.
