GoFibre List Next 32 Places for Full Fibre Rollout in England and Scotland
Independent rural UK broadband ISP GoFibre (BorderLink) has today named 32 new locations across Scotland and the North of England – reflecting a total of 82,000 premises (homes and businesses) – that will benefit from the next phase of their work to deploy a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network.
The alternative network, which last year secured a huge investment of £164m from Gresham House (BSIF) (here), has a long-term aim of covering 500,000 premises across the North of England and Scottish Borders areas by around the end of 2025. As part of that they’ve already covered various towns and villages in parts of the same area and recently began a build on one of the first Project Gigabit contracts (here).
The latest announcement appears to indicate that GoFibre’s network is now “reaching over 35,000 ‘ready-for-service’ premises across Aberdeenshire, East Lothian, the Scottish Borders and Fife” and they’re today unveiling the next phase of their expansion. The latest phase is due to be completed during early 2024 and this, they say, will mean that their network can reach “almost“ 120,000 premises.

Planning and construction of the expanded network is already underway in many of these areas, and the first residents and businesses in this next rollout phase should be connected as early as Autumn 2023. This next phase of expansion supports 50 jobs across internal and supplier teams.
A full list of locations can be found below, which is to be focused upon parts of Aberdeenshire, East Lothian, the Scottish Borders and Fife.

Customers of the new service can expect to pay from £36 per month for a 100Mbps package on a 24-month term with an included wireless router, which rises to £69 per month for their top 1000Mbps plan. The latter also comes with a bonus Wi-Fi extender (this can optionally be taken on other plans for just £5 per month extra).

Notice that are not doing any install in East Lothian area,yet I had a mail shot in 2022 saying they are coming to my village – still no work has been done -i will take there install rollout with a pinch of salt

Finally I might get Gig fibre here in Gorebridge since Virgin Media cant be arsed to even finish building out the town and BT doesn’t even know that Gorebridge even exists!!!!
I wonder how long it will take them to do the build, fingers crossed they dont do a VM and stop building south of the train station.

Well considering I signed up for GoFibre in 2021 and was told I would be connected January 2022, and I’m still waiting… This all seems to be marketing spin so take it with a pinch of salt.
GoFibre: Just because you unbundle an exchange doesn’t mean that you’ve suddenly built to . How about you actually connect those homes who actually signed up with you before trying to expand your empire? Or is it that you’re just trying to impress the shareholders with big coverage numbers but virtually no customers??

Precisely that.
Homes passed is the key and only metric for investors, and the management of many altnets then stretch the definition of homes passed until it’s thinner than the width of a single molecule (and H2 at that). The investors either have some remarkable prescient knowledge as to how these outfits will ever become sustainably profitable as OR and Project Gigabit advance slowly but remorselessly. Alternatively those investors don’t have a clue, and hope to sell out to an even less smart secondary investor before the Darwinian forces of economics claim their dues.
Maybe that’s where the term “altnet” comes from? Altnet: (noun); British telecommunications broadband fixed line network, built by any company other than Openreach or Virgin Media, and with a business model that is based on alternative interpretations of classical business finance that do not include concepts such as positive free cash flow, profitability, or realistic returns on capital employed.

Well I’m still waiting for BT to fully finish my area don’t think we will ever get an independent alt net hear we have hyper optics but they suck at coverage and will only help if it directly benefits them that’s not the way Todo bissniss makes no sense at all tbh
The whole roll out of alt nets has been a nightmear anyway
It is over a month now since these jokers said Tayport was in build still no a sign of a workman. Also look a the list they are targeting places with full Openreach coverage already like Alnwick or Cupar, or places in Openreach current build like St. Andrews, which is a dumb plan. They are likely to go bust pretty fast with planning like that.
