Broadband ISP Aquiss Introduce CityFibre Based FTTP Packages
Shropshire-based UK ISP Aquiss has this evening announced the launch of their first home broadband packages based off CityFibre’s national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network (here), which will complement their existing range of Openreach-based services.
The provider, which will shortly be celebrating their 18th year of trading, are initially only introducing two packages – a 150Mbps (average speed) entry-level tier for £38 per month (£19 for the first three months of service) and a 900Mbps option for £42 per month (£21 for the first three months of service).
All packages include symmetric service speeds, unlimited usage, a 12-month minimum contract term, a pledge of no mid-contract price rises, free activation, a static IPv4 address and static IPv6 addresses (/56). The catch is that new customers are expected to supply their own broadband router, which is not included.

They seem to be purposely positioning this as a home service, is that deliberate since CityFibre differentiate which premises are homes and which are businesses when deciding on the ISPs that can service each.

That really isn’t a catch…….
How so? The average customer will need a router and will not have one, like us nerds do.
The reality today is that not including a router with your broadband package has become the exception, rather than the rule.
aquiss’s customer base well may be of the kind that doesn’t want one & that’s why they’ve gone that way, but as a general point:
a freebie device that works perfectly well for 99.9% of users and use cases is more attractive than asking users to supply their own, which might not work as well and is a support hassle for most ISPs.
simply isn’t the case that ISP=always bad and DIY=always good.

I just recently joined as a new customer and noticed my Dream Machine picks up my WAN connection as CityFibre? I’m connected via FTTP Openreach ONT.
Yes, Aquiss use Entanet/Cityfibre LNS equipment and IP address blocks for their Openreach services.
So, erm, what does Aquiss do? Presumably more than just the billing?
