Sky UK (Sky Broadband, Sky TV, Sky Mobile – Comcast etc.) has today begun notifying their workforce that up to 600 of them are likely to be made redundant by the end of this year, while around 300 more may be impacted by a wider business reorganisation. Many of those expected to be cut appear to come from Sky’s tech and networking teams.
Sky has had a busy few years and a big part of that has been driven by developments on their network and technology side, such as with respect to the gradual shift from satellite to IP (Internet) based TV viewing (e.g. Sky Glass, Sky Stream). Not to mention the removal of Huawei technology to meet regulatory requirements, as well as the adoption of alternative broadband networks (e.g. CityFibre) and their new WiFi 7 router etc.
The company thus indicates that they’re now entering the next cycle of investment, which for Sky is said to be less about creating entirely new platforms and more about improving what they already have. The catch is that this means Sky doesn’t need the same size of tech and networking teams as it had before, and the reorganisation that flows from this is thus expected to result in more job losses.

Sky has thus launched a new consultation on proposed changes affecting around 900 roles, with around 600 exits expected by around the end of 2025. The company said that they would provide support for those impacted by this, such as through internal redeployment opportunities, outplacement services and mental health and wellbeing support etc.
A Sky Spokesperson told ISPreview:
“Over the past few years, Sky has launched a set of market-leading products including Sky Glass, Sky Stream and our full fibre broadband service. These products are now firmly established and used by millions of customers, strengthening Sky’s reputation for innovation and great service. As we look ahead, we are shifting our approach to bring customers the next generation of experience by investing in digital-first service, unbeatable content, and even better performance from our products, powered by the best of global innovation.”
Sky insisted to ISPreview that the move was not a cost-cutting exercise and that they remain a strong and profitable business. The company expresses that these changes are more about focus and simplifying their model, although those set to lose their jobs over the next few months will no doubt take a very different view.
Some of those impacted also said they expect Sky to make greater use of AI in the future to support network services. But it remains to be seen whether or not Sky’s service and support quality will suffer a dip over the next year as today’s changes slowly begin to bite.
The news follows Sky’s announcement in March 2025 (here), which saw them indicate that as many as 2,000 workers (7% of its total workforce) could be facing redundancy as part of a plan to close three of its ten UK customer service centres (i.e. Stockport, Sheffield and Leeds Central).

Greedy company. There’s never enough money to be made and if you can shed the workforce who helped you grow and become prosperous then so be it
The specific part of the workforce that helped them grow and become prosperous were the sales team (the ones who promise their future customers that their broadband will deliver everything – it will then be up to the tech team to try and deliver it).
Fun fact – the sales team isn’t getting cut.
Ultimately it’ll come back to bite Sky.
Cheap out on support by using overseas increases complaints and dissatisfaction.
Sky have been pushing people away at any opportunity to not call in ever since Covid and the IVR tries desperately to direct you to the website or community.
I got services from Sky a few months ago, I would love to speak to them via online chat or WhatsApp, hate waiting around on the phone but they don’t offer any sort of webchat. They can message you in the app, but you can’t reply!
People complain about BT frequently, but unlike Sky and TalkTalk their customer services are UK and Ireland based. Wishing the best to all those who are going to be affected by Skys latest proposed redundancies.
Since when have BT had after sales in the U.K? When I was with them many years ago, it was in India. I know Plusnet had it in the U.K.
I remember with BT them coming out with, hello my name is David, or something like that. Yeah, their name was not David.
@Ad47uk
Google suggests 2018 was 1k roles insourced, and complete by 2020.
I’ve never spoken to anyone outside of the UK in multiple calls/aftersales calls in the last 5 years. That’s the problem with going off “when I was with them years ago” and repeating yourself when its no longer valid.
Ad47uk, You are one of the people who regularly comment on this site. We all know you dislike BT with your often repeated, Bloated Toad and Brokenreach derogatory remarks. It’s well known that BT customer services are based in the UK and Ireland, and have been for years. Best to refrain from commenting when you are seemingly oblivious to this fact!
Sky have customer services in India, Bulgaria and South Africa, those are the ones i know off. The cuts always seem to affect workers in the UK, or least it seems that way!
Sky always greedy not care about customers, staffs, just pure greed!
Sounds like a RED Indian comment!
Sky, believe in cost cutting. They will close all those centres and lay all those staff off then use AI and staff in India, or third party contracts to make up the backlog. The customer experience will just be even worst as a result. Now TV is the only good thing they do IMO and they try to present that as a totally separate entity.
Oh dear, even less people to fix buggy Sky Stream.
Wonder if this is Sky cutting back because so many cutting the cord on their (expensive) prices….
Sky don’t even do the software fixes for that, streaming platform is Comcast so if there’s a fault Sky have to collect the information and supply it with logs to the Comcast support teams who then work on it.
Mml, how nieve. You think the growth of a company is just down to Sales. Yes, Sales bring the business in but Aftersales retain it!
I don’t see any fun facts. I see people losing their livelihoods.
You, are sadly lacking in empathy. Kinda indicative of the I’m alright jack culture that’s about nowadays.
Free hair cut ?
Sky is crap,
New movie now and then, some on there from 1950s,
Getting rid soon ip tv is the best.
@Alan “IPTV is best”??
well if everyone moves to that, where will the TV companies revenues come from that pays for all the ripped programming you watch?
do you steal petrol for your car, beer from the pub? so why is it ok to steal from a TVco? yes its extortionate, so are new phones and Cars, football shirts.
So you go without if you can’t afford them, nobody is forcing you to watch every episode of some random reality tv
More cutbacks at Sky, I know the technology work is already being done in India by Comcast. Since they took over Sky, they cut it to shreds call centres, installation engineers and now software developers. I think in a year there will be no UK based call centres left also it’s all being farmed about abroad for low wages. where they can pay ten people with the amount of money they spend on one person’s wage on-shore per a month. Comcast is an American corporation they love trying to find the best cost saving method they can.
Yeap, the three centres on the list to close were all brand new set up day one to be Sky call centres, very nice places with all the infrastructure, now closing and no doubt the jobs going to India. Sky did that before and lost customers as a result, Comcast following suite it seems. I predict the end of Sky in say 20 years. How Now TV stays around though.
Mind you having said that the last time I called them to cancel it was through to someone obviously sat in their home, and they were pretty obnoxious to be honest too. I actually stay with a company based on the customer service I receive.
Sadly this is happening everywhere, even where companies are making large profits, they cut workforce as much as they can, they have done it where I work and no doubt will do it again.
It is called greed.
This is all driven from Comcast.
They see satellite going away and the future is all over the internet.
With that in mind they believe that they can run sky as a cookie cut of Comcast. Whatever TV delivery is done by Comcast, they can just reskin for sky. In Theory they could just run sky from Comcast towers in the US so no need for uk based technical expertise as it can all be done remotely from the US or India.
Sky Glass is the last innovation from sky, sky stream puck is a Comcast product.
Sky Global Streaming platform is a beast and powers a lot of global streaming products around the globe

if I where them, I’d keep the innovative items like the streaming tech in house & onshore.

Pxc just announced 350 jobs being put at risk today as well. Telecoms industry is rough say the moment.
