A special mention today goes out to one of Virgin Media’s (O2) broadband engineers, Stephen Parsonage, who was in the process of installing new services for one of their customers in Leeds when, during a conversation, the customer began showing signs of suffering a stroke.
According to VMO2, the customer began struggling to speak and Stephen, who recognised the signs of a possible stroke, immediately phoned 999. But in an all too familiar situation for this country, the ambulance was unable to get to the scene quickly enough and so Stephen promptly drove the customer to the St James’s University Hospital himself.
The engineer also notified the customer’s family and ensured his younger child was cared for. The customer is now stable and back home with his family, who have rung Stephen to let them know how “eternally grateful” they are his actions.

Will Houldsworth, VMO2 Director of Retail and Field Sales, said:
“Stephen went above and beyond for this customer. What started as a routine visit quickly became a medical emergency, and his calm thinking, compassion and decisive action helped ensure the customer received treatment as quickly as possible.
We’re incredibly proud of the way he stepped in to support not only the customer but the whole family during a very distressing situation.”

That’s a heartwarming story. It was obviously the right thing to do, but it was still nice of him to do it. And I’m glad his boss was supportive, as opposed to upset that he probably missed an appointment.
Well done.
Yes same here well done.
He’s epitomising the company tagline – “See What You Can Do”.

Yep, well done, in the right place and the right time.
Well isn’t that something positive to end the week on! Well done to him and hope the victim is ok. No doubt the engineers action gave them a fighting chance!
He certainly saved this man from having worse permanent disability than he otherwise would have and possibly even saved his life. What a legend.
