Infracapital-backed alternative broadband operator and UK ISP Fibrus, which is building a full fibre (FTTP) network across rural parts of Cumbria (England) and Northern Ireland, has re-opened their Community Fund for new applications and is offering grants to eligible projects in areas they’ve covered.

Since the community funding programme launched in 2021, Fibrus has already donated £410,000 to community groups across Northern Ireland and Cumbria through various rounds. The fund is typically focused on supporting initiatives designed to reduce digital poverty, build confidence and improve inclusion in rural areas. Under the latest round, eligible community groups will be able to apply for grants worth up to £1,500.

NOTE: Fibrus has so far invested c.£750m, including £175m via shareholders, £285m debt and £300m from public subsidies. Some of their publicly funded builds include Project Stratum (81,148 premises in N.Ireland) and the Project Gigabit (Hyperfast GB) contracts for 53,540 premises in Cumbria (here), as well as a further 9,000 premises in N.Ireland (here).

If you are part of, or know of, a club or organisation that could benefit from this funding, the next round is now open and will close on 16th October 2026 at 1pm. People in Northern Ireland can apply here, while those in Cumbria must apply here.

Linda McMillan, Chief People Officer at Fibrus, said:

“Access to digital technology can make a real difference to the way community groups operate, support their members and create new opportunities for local people. That is why the Fibrus Community Fund continues to be such an important part of our work in the communities we serve.”

Fibrus’ gigabit broadband network is currently home to 155,000 customers and covers 471,800 premises passed (over 31% take-up).

NOTE: Infracapital also owns or has stakes in Gigaclear, Ogi, Neos Networks and WightFibre etc.
