France-based network benchmarking firm nPerf has today unveiled its new speed testing service for broadband internet connections, which now claims to offer a “complete diagnosis” of each connection, with results analysed by type of use, comparisons with other users, and tailored advice.
The nPerf test still measures all the key indicators (e.g. download speed, upload speed and latency), and now goes further by explaining what they mean. For example, with the “Understand my results” option, users see what their performance means for everyday uses such as video calls or online gaming, so they can more easily tell whether their connection meets their needs.
In addition, the new “Optimize the connection” feature aims to turn test results into recommendations based on the measured performance (i.e. users receive practical tips to improve their connection), while the “Compare” feature shows users how their results measure up against others, by operator, connection technology and location, nationally or regionally. The latter is probably the most useful change.

Loïc, Product Owner of nPerf, told ISPreview:
“Most people get a result without really knowing what to do with it. We wanted to turn our test into a real support tool, one that explains, compares and advises.”

Ok so I ran the new web test, it says I have 6Gbit down 3 up. The advice for optimising the connection? use the app. App shows 7.9/8Gbit
@anon
So what “should” your connection speed be?
For my Zen via CityFibre 500/500 connection, nPerf gave 497 down and 495 up, so fairly accurate for me.
Do we need yet another speed test site though?
Browsers have problems when speed testing higher speed connections. Telling you to use the app is therefore the correct advice and looks like it gave the right numbers.
