Mobile operator O2 UK has moved to combat the growing range of data-friendly packages from rivals Three UK and T-Mobile by launching a new Pay Monthly tariff called ‘On & On‘, which from £26 a month (from £36 with a new phone) bundles unlimited minutes with unlimited texts and 1GB (GigaByte) of Mobile Broadband usage (no extra data charges will apply after that is consumed).
The new package claims that consumers can use up their data allowance “however they like” and makes specific reference to both tethering (i.e. using your Smartphone as a wireless broadband modem for your computer) and streaming (e.g. iPlayer, YouTube etc.). Those wanting to add more data can double the allowance to 2GB for an extra £5. O2 will also send regular text updates to inform customers of how much data they’re using.
