Communications provider Spectrum Interactive has announced that they are opening up their wifi hotspots in London (England, UK) to offer free internet access, albeit with a small catch. Users will only be granted access to FREE Street Wi-Fi if they first select a free promotional offer from one of the service partners.
Presently Spectrum Interactive claims to operate 1,800 street payphone kiosks, of which some 1,500 are within the M25 area, which will all be able to provide the free service.
Daniel Gray, Commercial Director of Spectrum Interactive, said (DailyDOOH):
“People have come to demand connectivity 24/7, but 3G doesn’t always live up to their expectations. Our street Wi-Fi network fills a void, offering broadband-style speeds in some of central London’s busiest areas.”
The service will apparently use location based technology from Selective Media to deliver relevant “mobile vouchers” to shoppers who are nearby one of their stores.
