Bentley Walker Offers Free Satellite Broadband Service to Cumbria Notspots

Friday, June 8th, 2012 (1:10 pm) - Score 1,210

Satellite ISP Bentley Walker has pledged to provide their Tooway (Eutelsat) broadband service with free installation and free activation to several isolated communities in rural Cumbria (England, UK). The move follows a decision by Cable & Wireless Worldwide to cease their wireless internet service in Duddon Valley and Branthwaite.

C&WW first announced the closure of its loss making service, which will cease by the end of June 2012, last month (original news) because the related public subsidy had expired and it would have been “uneconomical” to continue.

At the time local people were offered an alternative Satellite broadband service from Tooway Direct, which also came with a free installation. Since then rival Satellite ISP Bentley Walker has also stepped in to offer an almost identical product.

Neil Robinson, Business Development Manager of Bentley Walker, said:

We are honoured to help out in any way we can to those living in areas suffering from inadequate internet access. Many businesses and educational services throughout rural UK can suffer in profit, sustainability and overall effectiveness with a slow or non-existent internet connection. Satellite broadband is a great solution for those where cabling cannot be justified.”

Apparently all those in affected Cumbrian areas (almost 50 subscribers in total) have been notified that they are entitled to free installation and activation of a Tooway Satellite internet connection, which leaves only the monthly subscription left to pay. Bentley Walker claims that “many properties” have already taken the offer.
