Vodafone UK Launch Cheaper EU Mobile Broadband Roaming Service

Thursday, June 14th, 2012 (7:39 am) - Score 1,511

Mobile operator Vodafone UK has this week joined both O2 UK (here) and Three UK (here) in launching a cheaper package (EuroTraveller) for Mobile Broadband users who still like to get online while roaming around within Europe.

The new EuroTraveller service reflects Europe’s new roaming regulation (details) by giving Voda’s Pay Monthly customers, including business travellers on standard price plans, visiting their Europe Zone the ability to spend more time talking, texting and surfing the web for £3 Per Day.

Vodafone’s approach is to simply extend your existing price plan to work within Europe. To benefit you must opt-in to the EuroTraveller add-on and then you’ll be able to use your existing allowances (minutes, text and mobile internet) around Europe. Apparently this excludes any “extras” you might have on the package and all out of bundle charges are the same as price plans in the UK. Calls and texts received whilst travelling in the EU are also free.

Vodafones Statement

Any Pay monthly customer who decides they do not wish to opt-in to Vodafone EuroTraveller will still benefit from new reduced prices in our Europe Zone from July 1. Making a call back home from 35 European destinations will now cost 28.8p a minute whilst a text is just 8.9p. For travellers in Europe who can’t live without Facebook, Twitter and the mobile internet it’s now 69.6p per MB [MegaByte].

By comparison O2’s new O2Travel package offers £1.99 for 25MB Per Day, while Three UK charges £5 Per Day (or £1.28 per MB if you’re a pay-as-you-go customer) for largely unrestricted Mobile Broadband roaming.
