Cable operator Virgin Media has today announced the launch of its new triple-play Classic Collection package, which bundles together a 30Mbps superfast broadband service with TV (includes 500GB TiVo box and 58 channels) and free unlimited weekend calls to UK landlines and Virgin Mobiles from £9 a month.
According to the PR blurb, the service costs £9 per month for the first 6 months and then £18 thereafter. Furthermore new customers must also take a Virgin Phone Line for £13.90 a month (a Line Rental Saver option for £120 exists when paying 12 months in advance by debit/credit card) and then on top of that there’s the one-off £49.95 installation fee to pay as well.

Andrew Barron, COO of VirginMedia, said:
“The success of our Collections to date is testament to the growing mainstream demand for superfast broadband and next generation connected television. Our customers tell us they love being able to enjoy their favourite TV shows at a time that suits them and that they’re discovering new family favourites thanks to TiVo. In introducing the Classic Collection, we continue to make such leading services the standard with Virgin Media.”
The new Classic Collection, which appears intended as part of a fight back against Sky’s growing ambitions, is available on either a standard 12 month contract or with six months half price via an 18 month contract. It also comes with unlimited data usage, which is still subject to VM’s Traffic Management policy, and a free SuperHub wireless router.
