Allpay Broadband, a fixed wireless internet provider that specialises in deploying its broadband wifi service into rural areas by placing transmitters at the top of local churches, has announced that its service should soon be going live in the civil parish villages of Peterchurch and Garway; with more planned.
In fairness Allpay have been targeting Peterchurch, not to mention several other villages in the Golden Valley region of Herefordshire, for well over a year and freely admits that it’s been a long time coming. But progress is finally being made and the network is already partially installed.
An AllPay Spokesperson said:
“We know we’ve been saying this for a while now but we are nearly there. We’ve installed an access point in Peterchurch and we’re just waiting to get approval from the relevant authorities to install in Garway before we can get both sites up and running, hopefully by the end of November. We’ll then be coming to the Golden Valley!”
Once live locals can expect to receive broadband download speeds of up to 35Mbps (Megabits per second), with prices starting at £15 per month for a basic 2Mbps (0.5Mbps upload) service and “unlimited” usage (Fair Usage Policy). The one-off installation costs £100.
The project began almost 2 years ago after Allpay, which started life by specialising in payment schemes for public and private sector organisations, successfully negotiated the UK’s first Broadband Licence for Churches (here) with the Diocese of Hereford.
