VIDEO BT and Timico CTO Showcase an FTTC Superfast Broadband Install

Thursday, November 8th, 2012 (8:41 am) - Score 1,005
bt street cabinet fttc deployment

The Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of business ISP Timico UK, Trefor Davies, recently had a BT film crew turn up to record the events as his local street cabinet and home connectivity were upgraded to support superfast broadband (FTTC) technology; that video has now been posted.

The video itself is nothing too special, in fact it’s perhaps a bit too heavy on the promotional spin side of the fence and could have done with a greater focus on the actual installation work, but it does still show some of the work being done and points to the advantages of faster connectivity.

BT’s £2.5bn privately funded roll-out currently aims to bring its superfast broadband services to around 66% of homes and businesses in the UK by spring 2014, although it could reach 90% by 2016/17 with the lion’s share of public funding from the Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) office.

I wonder if his company gives him unlimited bandwidth. 😉

With all due respect to Trefor Davies,

Being the chief technical officer of Timico I would have expected that he be more on mark with the correct technical terminology.

Phrases like “fiber optic broadband” and “uplink” do not inspire confidence in us numbnuts….

Please correct me if I am mistaken but is the video not based on FTTC and not FTTH?

Does the word “uplink” not refer to satellite communication’s?

My Davies, please do provide your version of events…

£49 for a (yuck, horrid) Thomson Technicolour router also (assuming he is using the same kit anyone with Timico gets sold).
