Customers that make use of Virgin Media’s TV Anywhere App on iOS devices (e.g. iPhone, iPad etc.), specifically when connected to their home broadband network, have been unable to use the service properly for the past few days due to an unspecified fault.
The TV Anywhere app, which is a video-on-demand and remote control service for the operators TV subscribers, recently began spewing out an unusual “TiVo Box not found on this Network” error. The message typically shows despite there being no other problems on the subscribers home network and it also only appears to affect iOS devices.

ISPreview.co.uk notes that some customers have been complaining about this problem on Virgin’s Community Forum since late December 2013 (here, here and here), although it took until 7th January 2014 before the issue grew to such a level that the operator was able to confirm it.
Jen, Virgin’s Support Team, said:
“You may find that you are unable to use the TV Anywhere app on your Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch whilst in Home mode. (That is, when you have it connected to your Home network and are using it as a ‘remote control’). The reference number for this fault is: F002853490.
We are working hard to get this remedied as quickly as we can and will let you know here once it’s working again. Don’t forget, as with all registered faults, you can subscribe for text alerts via status.virginmedia.com.
In the meantime you can still enjoy all the other great features like live streaming, search and browse and setting up recordings and series links as you normally would when away from your home.”
The fault appears to be nationwide and at the time of writing there was no ETA for its fix or an explanation available for what might be causing it. We note that some non-iOS users have also reported a similar error on Virgin’s forum but so far it appears to be a mainly Apple dominated issue.
UPDATE 14th Jan 2014
It took far too long but Virgin Media claims to have finally resolved this issue in an updated release of the app (Version 2.2.4), which can be downloaded from the usual iOS app store.
