ISP Wessex Internet Brings 50Mbps Wireless Broadband to Tisbury

Monday, Jul 21st, 2014 (11:15 am) - Score 745

Wessex Internet (M12 Solutions), which delivers 100Mbps fibre optic (FTTH) and 30-50Mbps wireless broadband services to premises in rural parts of North Dorset and South West Wiltshire in England, has expanded their radio network to reach homes and businesses in Tisbury.

The Wyndham Place development is home to around 90 new houses on the edge of Tisbury village (total population of more than 2,000), but sadly most of those don’t expect to gain access to a broadband connection until around October 2014 at the earliest.

In the meantime Wessex Internet, which has already installed 2 masts that overlook most of the village from a nearby hillside, has stepped in to give locals and businesses a superfast broadband alternative that can deliver speeds of up to 50Mbps (Megabits per second).

Wessex Internet Update

It came to our attention that many residents of the Wyndham Place development have been left without phone or Internet connectivity, with the soonest installation date being proposed for October. However superfast broadband is available today in Tisbury and Wessex Internet recently completed the first installation on the new estate. The expansion means that a large number of Tisbury residents & businesses can now make benefit of a superfast (up to 50 Mb/s) Internet connection.

Wessex Internet operates its own hybrid-fibre and wireless network, covering some 50km of fibre optic cable and 1000s of km via their wireless infrastructure. The service spans from Cranborne in the East, to Melbury Bubb in the West; Fonthill Bishop in the North, to Melcombe Bingham in the South.

The residential wireless broadband packages typically start at £25 per month for a 30Mbps service (1Mbps upload) with a 20GB usage allowance (installation varies from £199 to £99 if you take a VoIP phone service). Meanwhile their FTTH packages start at £35 per month for a 100Mbps (10Mbps upload) service with a 40GB allowance and variable installation fee (POA – service delivered alongside M12 Solutions).

UPDATE 23rd July 2014

The ISP has just confirmed that their existing 30Mbps Family+ package customers will soon (29th July 2014) be upgraded to 50Mbps. In addition the price will drop from £57 to just £49 per month from 1st August 2014.

Not satisfied with providing up to 30 Mb/s down, we have been trialling 50 Mb/s services with a few of our connections, and the performance has been excellent. Although 30 Mb/s is more than fast enough for most homes, with Ultra-HD (4k) TV around the corner, 50 Mb/s will provide plenty of headroom, and more,” says Matthew Skipsey, Co-Founder of Wessex Internet.
