JT Global (Jersey Telecom) reports that some 10,000 customers have now subscribed to their 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network on Jersey (Channel Islands), which is up from 8,479 in June and 7,600 in March 2014.
The Gigabit Isles project is currently aiming to roll FTTH out to around 42,000 premises (990km of new fibre optic cable) by the end of 2016 (plus 5,000 on Guernsey), which will eventually be used to replace the islands aging copper line based ADSL broadband services.

Dave Newbold, JT’s Gigabit Director, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have reached this very important landmark in our Gigabit Jersey programme which is already revolutionising the way Islanders use the internet and bringing many advantages for Jersey. I am pleased to confirm that we are on track to complete the programme on budget by the end of 2016 and would like to congratulate Dr Flambard for becoming our 10,000th customer.”
Meanwhile locals remain frustrated by the operators limited usage allowances, which even on the top 1Gbps package only give you a daytime usage allowance of 100GB (unlimited off-peak) and that will set you back £59.99 per month.
