The Community Broadband Scotland (CBS) initiative has teamed-up with the Dunlaw Extension Community Benefit Trust to commit a grant of £152,000 that will be used to help build a new “superfast” capable fixed wireless broadband service to over 250 premises around the Humbie and Fala areas.
The not-for-profit project has been developed by Humbie Lammermuir Community Enterprise Ltd. (HLCE) and the service itself will be delivered by Lothian Broadband Limited (LBN), which ran a “successful pilot” of the service to a handful of houses in 2013.

Frank Kirwan, HLCE Director, said:
“High speed internet access for our community represents a great boost economically and socially – and we would recommend that other communities similarly lacking broadband explore what specialists such as LBN can bring.
We are delighted to contract with LBN to build and operate a top notch broadband network for the Humbie area.”
Ian Smith, LBN managing director, said:
“This is another landmark for LBN, representing the first of many similar projects we hope to undertake on behalf of communities in East Lothian and beyond.”
Previously locals could only benefit from an ancient ADSL MAX (up to 8Mbps) service, which in many parts reportedly struggled to get much above 2Mbps. Credits to Thinkbroadband for pointing out the press release, which slipped under our radar last week.
