Internet provider TalkTalk Business has joined forces with Bournemouth-based ISP C4L to roll-out their unlimited usage “zero contention” Ethernet over FTTC (EoFTTC) service across the United Kingdom.
The service is based off the domestic Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) product, except that it’s focused on delivering uncontended Ethernet connectivity with symmetrical speeds of 20Mbps (Megabits per second) that can be burst up to 80Mbps on the download side when required.

EoFTTC is also eligible for the Government’s up to £3,000 Connection Voucher grants, which are designed to help businesses cover the installation cost of superfast broadband connections.
Matt Hawkins, C4L’s Chairman and Founder, said:
“EFM continues to be a solid connectivity option and will continue to be widely used, however the foresight is that this may be the beginning of the end of EFM as EoFTTC provides higher performance at a lower cost where it is available. By TalkTalk partnering with a forward thinking business like C4L who are enabling this in more and more locations on our coreTX network, this may happen sooner than later.”
At present TalkTalk’s EoFTTC package also offers “quicker installs” of up to 30 days, plus a 7 hour fix time and 24/7 UK based business support. Customers normally pay £350 +vat for the install on a 36 month contract term and then £120 per month for the service, which is a little cheaper (rental) than some similar EoFTTC style solutions.
