Gigaclear has already started the build of their new 1000Mbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in rural Gloucestershire (England) and they’ve now published the full roll-out schedule for that deployment, which should benefit 6,495 premises by the end of May 2017.
A tentative and quite basic roll-out plan was first published in August (here), while the deployment phase itself finally got under-way last month in Badgeworth (here). Under this plan communities in Coberley, Upper Coberley, Cockleford, Colesbourne, Cowley, Elkstone, Seven Springs and Stockwell were initially told they’d have access to the service before Christmas 2015.

The full schedule for Fastershire’s phase 2 broadband roll-out, which includes dates for when each community is expected to go live, has now been published online. However it reveals a slight delay for some areas, with only customers in Cockerly now going live before Christmas 2015.
Meanwhile those in Coberley, Upper Coberley, Cockleford, Colesbourne, Cowley, Elkstone, Seven Springs and Stockwell will have access to Gigaclear’s broadband service in the first quarter of 2016. In fairness it’s a fairly understandable change for such a big project and other schemes have suffered similar adjustments. The final completion date remains unaffected.
Matthew Hare, CEO of Gigaclear, said:
“We are off to a great start with this project, with the first ultrafast fibre cabinet due to go live in a few weeks’ time in December. This means the first to receive the service will have ultrafast broadband in their homes and businesses in time for Christmas.
Our partnership, and the support received from the Fastershire team is helping us deliver this project on time, bringing speeds up to 40 times faster than the UK average to residents and businesses across the Cotswolds.”
The Fastershire contract is funded by £3m of public investment and a further £7m of private investment from Gigaclear itself. The deal is also one of the very few Broadband Delivery UK based projects in England to be agreed with an operator other than BT.
