During a routine update of our ISP Listings database we noticed that Gigaclear, an independent fibre optic (FTTP) broadband ISP that is currently rolling out to thousands of rural premises, has announced a raft of new price increases that will hit from 1st January 2016.
Broadly speaking the changes represent an additional increase of between +65p to +£2 a month on top of the existing subscription fees. For example, Gigaclear’s unlimited symmetrical 50Mbps package will rise from £38.80 per month to £39.90 and their 1000Mbps service will similarly go from £72 to £74.
The one-off connection fee remains at £100 and it’s important to reflect that the above prices are all you need to pay because a separate fee for phone line rental is not required. The pricing already appears to be active for new subscribers and so we assume that the January date is for when it will start to impact existing customers.
Proportionally the price rises reflect an increase of around 2.8%, which is roughly half what many of the bigger ISPs tend to deliver.
