Internet provider Surf Telecoms has achieved the secure government-approved network certification known as CAS(T) or CESG Assured Services (Telecommunications), which is one of the necessary milestones on the path towards becoming a full Public Services Network (PSN) provider.
The certification follows an extensive audit process, which helped to test, revise and scrutinise many aspects of the company’s network and practices. As a result Surf Telecoms has now had the secure provision of its data services thoroughly tested and checked against the growing threats posed by online criminals.
It’s worth pointing out that CESG (Communications-Electronics Security Group) is the UK government’s Information Security arm of GCHQ.
Kevan Scott, Manager of Surf Telecoms, said:
“The CAS(T) certification demonstrates the reliability of our network. This achievement is a measure of the substantial investment we have made in people, processes and infrastructure in order to future-proof our offering and increase our business in the significant public sector market.”
Martin Eddlestone, Senior Manager of Sky Network Services (BSkyB), added:
“As a major broadcaster, network and communications security is a primary concern of BskyB and we are reassured to be in a long-term business partnership with a service provider that meets the stringent CAS(T) requirements. Surf Telecoms’ recent certification means that we can rely on a secure foundation for our business development.”
The ISP itself is a wholly owned subsidiary of Western Power Distribution and delivers a range of services across the whole of mainland UK, from 2Gb leased to 100Gb optical wavelengths, dark fibre and secure colocation and site sharing facilities.
