Netflix UK, the broadband-based unlimited movie and TV video streaming service, has informed older customers that their special legacy subscription price of £5.99 per month will shortly be increased to £7.49.
At present Netflix offers three package tiers: Basic (£5.99), Standard (£7.49) and Premium (£8.99). The ‘Basic’ package only allows you to stream one video at a time and is limited to Standard Definition (SD) content, while ‘Standard’ supports 2 HD streams and ‘Premium’ supports 4K and 4 video streams.

However some early subscribers to Netflix benefited because they only had to pay £5.99 per month as part of a new customer offer and for that they were able to receive the ‘Standard’ package instead of the ‘Basic’ one. But unfortunately that offer will come to an end during May 2016 and thus the pricing is being rebalanced so that you’ll pay £7.49 if you previously benefited from the legacy £5.99 price, or you can continue to pay £5.99 but lose the HD quality.
A Netflix Spokesperson said:
“Later this month, members in the UK will begin to be ungrandfathered. Beginning May, the price update is rolling out elsewhere based on member billing periods. Impacted members will be clearly notified by email and within the service, so that they have time to decide which plan/price point works best for them.“
End.
