UK ISP Andrews and Arnold (AAISP) has decided to make their ‘up to’ 80Mbps (20Mbps upload) capable FTTC broadband product the standard for all Home VDSL connections and at the same price point as their old ‘up to’ 40Mbps (10Mbps) VDSL service (i.e. no extra cost for 80Mbps).
Previously if you took AAISP’s ‘up to’ 40Mbps (10Mbps) VDSL service then you’d have to pay an extra +£5 per month to get the top 80Mbps profile, but this extra cost has now been removed. Better yet, existing customers with the 40/10 profile won’t have to re-contract in order to get the faster speed.

AAISP Update
We are removing the extra £5/month charge for Home::1 customers on BT back haul with 80/20 capped FTTC. This means instead of being £40/month the 80/20 FTTC will be £35/month from your next bill.
This is consistent with our Talk Talk backhaul Home::1 terabyte services where the speed of FTTC does not impact the pricing.
Customers on BT backhaul Home::1 with 40/10 caps that have forecast speeds that could exceed 40Mb/s down or 10Mb/s can order a regrade on our broadband order form for £15. This does not restart the minimum term and usually happens next working day. This is no guarantee that your line will sync over 40/10, it simply changes the caps applied to the line sync.
As AAISP alludes above, removing the 40Mbps speed cap doesn’t magically make all lines faster than their current limits would allow. The increase in speed only makes a difference if your attainable copper line rate using VDSL is higher than the previous 40Mbps profile, although even those on slower VDSL lines will often still benefit from faster upload speeds (up to 20Mbps vs 10Mbps).
The change means that AAISP’s entry-level VDSL package, which includes a 100GB usage allowance (bigger allowances up to 1 TeraByte are available at extra cost), will now cost £35 inc. VAT per month for the 80/20 profile (it use to be £40 for the same speed) on a 6 month contract term. Line rental is still required of course, but they do sell that from only £10 extra.
