Telecoms operator EE will today become the latest ISP to adopt the Advertising Standards Authority‘s new all-inclusive pricing policy (details), which requires providers to combine the cost of phone line rental and broadband into a single price. But the changes also mask a price increase.
Until today if you were to order, for example, EE’s entry-level ‘up to’ 17Mbps capable broadband package then you could expect to pay £1 per month for the first 18 months of service (rising to £10 thereafter) for broadband. On top of that standard line rental of £17.50 per month would also be payable (total of £18.50 a month for 18 months and then £27.50 thereafter). The above price could be reduced to total £25.75 a month by pre-paying for line rental in advance, which cuts the monthly line rental cost to the equivalent of £15.75.
However from today that same package will cost you £19.50 per month for the 18 month contract term, which is a +£1 increase over the precious standard pricing. The reason for this is because EE has increased the underlying line rental charge to £18.50 per month and pre-paid line rental to £199 for 12 months (monthly equivalent of £16.58) or £299 for 18 months (monthly equivalent of £16.61).
EE’s Revised Home Broadband + Line Rental Bundles
Standard Broadband (up to 17 Mb) = £19.50 per month for 18 months (£28.50 thereafter)
Standard Broadband (up to 17 Mb) & Anytime calls = £26 per month for 18 months
Fibre Broadband (up to 38 Mb) = £28.50 per month for 18 months
Fibre Plus Broadband (up to 76 Mb) = £36.50 per month for 18 months
We’ll have to wait for EE to update their website before being able to verify, but usually all of these packages include unlimited usage, a wireless router (£7 delivery), inclusive UK weekend landline calls and 5GB of extra EE mobile data. Anytime calls (inc. 1500 mins to mobiles and calls to landlines in 40 countries) can usually also be added to the packages for an extra £6.50 per month, but we wouldn’t be surprised if this has also increased in price.
