The Senior Product Manager for TV at TalkTalk, Davide Turi, has revealed that broadband ISP TalkTalk is working on a “completely new” TV product that appears to be aimed at mobile devices (Smartphones, Tablets etc.). Turi recently joined the ISP after working at Sky on their Sky Q TV platform.
At present the ISP already has a reasonably capable YouView (IPTV) based TV platform for their home broadband subscribers and they’ve also made a number of attempts to unseat rivals at Virgin Media, Sky (Sky Broadband) and BT by launching various video streaming solutions for mobile devices, such as the TalkTalk TV Player app that received mixed ratings (here and here). Not to mention TV2Go.
However you don’t grab somebody like Davide Turi unless you’re planning a much more polished and bolder move, which seems to be the current plan. Trusted Reviews has today reported that at least some of TalkTalk’s customers have been sent the following message, which reads like an invite to a new product trial.

TalkTalk’s Customer Note (Extract)
Many of you have helped us out with our latest release of TalkTalk TV and we are so grateful, it really paid off! On the back of this success, we would like to invite TalkTalk customers to get involved in the first stage of a completely new product. We are looking for several customers to meet with our designers for an exploratory session at our offices.
We are looking for customers who have TalkTalk broadband and watch video from services like Netflix and Amazon using mobile devices such as a smartphone, tablet or personal computer. Having TalkTalk TV is a plus but not required.
Officially TalkTalk’s spokespeople will only confirm that they’re “developing a number of innovations” for their TV offering and as ever there’s no guarantee that any of those will ever see the light of day. Hopefully we’ll know more by the end of 2017.
