Virgin Mobile UK Offers 120GB Data 4G SIM Plan for Just £20

Tuesday, Jan 15th, 2019 (11:06 am) - Score 3,812

New customers of cable operator Virgin Media’s mobile division (Virgin Mobile) can until 31st January 2019 buy a specially discounted 4G SIM-Only plan, which features unlimited calls, unlimited texts and 120GB of data (mobile broadband) for just £20 per month on a 12 month contract term.

The plan in question usually costs £23 per month and comes with a much smaller data allowance of 40GB. At the same time it’s worth remembering that existing Virgin Media broadband and TV customers can also take a SIM Only plan with “unlimited data” for just £25 per month and that’s the normal price.

At present Virgin’s network is still based off a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement with EE (BT).

Good to see the price of 4G data continuing to fall, just 2 years ago 100GB was £60 a month. It is a lifeline for thousands of rural homes left out of BDUK and other schemes. It will be interesting to see at what price it bottoms out, somewhere the same as average usage fixed line would be my guess, so c£20 for c200GB.

Both Virgin Media and Three have already offered unlimited 4G data, calls and texts for £20 in Black Friday deals (Virgin in 2017, Three in 2018).

Virgin’s 2018 Black Friday deal was ‘only’ 200GB for £20.

Virgin unlimited 4G is only available to existing broadband customers which rules out most rural areas. Three has the issue below. But slowly it is all heading in the right direction.

@ Guy – I was paying £60 for 100GB until December! Also the “Truly Unlimited” deal is actually capped at 2248GB for data

@CJ – I got a permanent 100GB rollover added to my account after taking that deal. I could go down to 500MB and get 100.5GB for £6 a month!. VM won’t remove it (I’ve asked) and have said it will apply to any plan I move to if I come off unlimited

The black friday deal was £20 for 200GB with 1 month rollover – of course now 3 are unlimited.

Unlimited from Three is officially for phones only, yes the SIM will work in a router, but don’t expect any tech support or help from Three if you do. Fine for us tech types who know what we are getting, not ideal for everyone else..

Without a handset, Vodafone in India is offering 365GB plus calls and SMS for a whole year for just GBP16.41.

Wonder what the speeds are like though.

I managed to get EE to agree to 100gb for £25/month, fastest speeds in the UK too

Does anyone know that if Virgin Mobile use all the EE frequency bands? Was win Plusnet mobile that use EE but do not have access to the lower 800mhz band thus reception in buildings was very poor.

Im getting 300GB on virgin for £20 a month, over 50mb download and 10-20 upload, not bad at all, its getting to the point that the landline will be dumped when my BT Broadband ends.

Fed up of paying £30 a month for 14mb down and 1.2mb up.

Ive never gone over 300gb a month on my landline broadband.

‘At present Virgin’s network is still…’

This is rather ambiguous phrasing. Are you aware of something that we’re not Mark? Plans for Virgin to switch MVNO provider, or build out a network of their own?

Quidco are(were?) offering £96 cashback so the net cost is around £140/year
