Worcester-based ISP Airband, which is busy deploying a fixed wireless and hybrid FTTP broadband network across a number of large UK rural areas, has appointed a former executive of mobile operators O2 and giffgaff – Mark Stansfeld – to become their new chairman.
Mark is currently also chairman of the Worcestershire 5G Testbed, which advises the UK government and industry on next-generation mobile technology, and on top of that he chairs the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership. Suffice to say that this sounds like a good fit for Airband.
The new appointment will replace interim chairman Philip Lawrence, who remains on the board as a non-executive director.
Redmond Peel, Airband Founder and Managing Director, said:
“We know that there is tremendous opportunity to play a role creating a better digital infrastructure in many parts of the UK and we’ve seen demand for our services increase in both rural areas and urban not-spots – so expanding our team in order to meet the demand has been a key focus during this past year.
Mark’s experience and track record, particularly at giffgaff, where he focussed on attracting new customer segments with a unique community model, is a perfect match for our goals for Airband. Mark is well positioned to help us capitalise on the significant opportunity ahead of us and deliver significant results.
I’m also delighted that Philip has agreed to stay on the board and thank him for his guidance over the last year.”
End.
