Mobile operator EE (BT) has launched a new “BT Sport in a Box” package for their Pay Monthly customers, which costs £45 and includes 3 months’ access to the BTSport TV app with inclusive data, 3 months large screen access and an inclusive Google Chromecast (worth c.£75) “so that they can watch every game on their TV at home.”
Additionally, as part of the ‘Entertainment’ package on EE, new and existing Pay Monthly mobile or tablet customers can also claim a separate 3 months’ free access to BTSport, with inclusive data. “If customers haven’t yet enjoyed their first three free months of BT Sport, it will be added to their BT Sport in a Box subscription, giving them 6 months’ access,” said the operator.
As usual this BTSport offer includes the full line-up of channels: BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport 3, BT Sport ESPN, and their HD versions.
So basically this is EE/BT selling a chrome cast for cheaper but including 3 months BT Sport SUb ?
A chromecast (assuming not the 4k varient) is £30 RRP (often on offer for less).
So this is more akin to “buy a chromecast, and pay an additional £15 for a 3month trial of BTSport TV app with inclusive data and large screen access”
@Harmz
Ah okay I use my Apple TV 4K for BT Sports it works quite well.
@Matthew. That’s the real issue. It is not that EE are using incentives to entice and upsell longterm. The fact that the demand has exhausted supply has to be regarded a success.
The issue is the manner in which such products are sold. I can’t see anything that clearly explains that this is only for people without existing casting functionality in their TV or another device already connected to the TV that can run the app.
In a world where people buy 4K TVs and then don’t even select HD channels on the TV guide this simply results in more use of plastic and precious metals than needed. Currently the emphasis is too much sell and not enough guidance in both the advertising and subsequent media reports.
Already out of stock…
Back in stock now. Just ordered one for my father. He uses Freeview but wanted to watch a bit more sport. Good price and quick to set up.
